This year, you can bowl from home for kids from the comfort of your own living room, or office lunchroom.

The annual Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) Bowl for Kids Sake will be held on Saturday, Feb. 25, and this year, BBBS will be loaning out Wii bowling kits for participating teams to bring to their home, office, church or club.

“This is one of my favourite parts,” said Robin Heald, resource development manager with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lanark County, which is based in Smiths Falls. “People can create their teams online … They don’t have to go door-to-door.”

BBBS held the kick-off at the Valley BBQ restaurant in Carleton Place on Feb. 1.

The group held an antique and collectible toy show last month in Almonte, marking a busy winter for the group.

“This is our signature fundraising event and our biggest event of the year,” said Heald. “Fundraising in general is one of our biggest challenges. We want to get to a place where people are doing our fundraising for us … so that we don’t have back-to-back fundraisers.”

This marks the first year the Lanark County BBBS has a title sponsor in everyone’s favourite morning addiction, Tim Hortons.

“Absolutely nothing is used up for expenses, for the fundraiser,” said Heald, with Tim Hortons covering everything, and all the of the money raised going back into the BBBS’ mentoring program.

Heald would love to see some rivalry stirred up amongst the teams, hopefully with challenges between, say, town councils in different communities, or competition amongst different financial institutions.

There are 10 trophies up for grabs to not only make someone’s office look good, but also for “the bragging rights that go with it.”
