SW:TOR | Rated PvP Warzones and Dual Specs

In a QA lead designer Gabe Amatangelo has announced that Star Wars: the Old Republic will include rated PvP Warzones and dual specs.

Amatangelo chimes in on warzones, “…one of the top things on our list for post launch is a rated Warzone system where players can form teams, earn team ratings, earn individual ratings, as well as participate in tournaments, etc.”

This is significant news for SW:TOR’s player versus player community. With the addition of rated PvP, players are given a new reason to participate in Warzones. Status and achievement drive the PvP world, and with personal ratings players will be given an opportunity to flaunt their hard earned accomplishments.

The possibility of an “arena system” was also discussed in the QA, though nothing definitive was made public. The addition of a “Single Elimination PvP game mode” to the The Old Republic’s existing lineup of domination, assault and bombing run encounters was left “to be determined.” Also left up to speculation is the inclusion of ratings in open world PvP, as several non-instanced PvP zones have been announced (including Ilum).

Dual specializations for advanced skill trees were also announced – important for those who wish to fulfill more than one role with their characters. Amatangelo stated that dual specs would be in “soon after launch.” Certain abilities were also discussed – “Guard,” “Taunt” and “Resolve” – that help narrow the gap between different specializations, suggesting that different specializations may be more versatile than we’ve seen in past games.

The inclusion of rated PvP in The Old Republic’s Warzones and dual skill specializations could bring a lot of endgame content possibilities to the title.
