Just because you own a spanking new iPhone doesn’t mean that you aren’t a retro fan at heart and if the memory of spending hours on a ZX Spectrum or a Commodore 64 is enough to give you shivers down the spine then you might like some of these classic games for your phone.

1 ) Space invaders.
A smoky arcade, flashing aliens and strange beeping noises were made a part of so many people’s lives thanks to the daddy of all retro shoot em ups. The idea is incredibly simple and the graphics are best described as basic and yet this is a game which is capable of keeping us hooked for hours. It costs a few pounds but it is worth it.
2 ) Super Break Out.
What three things do you need to have hours of fun in your bedroom? If you answered a bat, a ball and a big pile of exploding bricks you are absolutely right. There are loads of versions of this game around and it is one of the great mysteries of the universe how we never get tired of knocking that ball into those bricks over and over again.
3 ) Pole Position.
Probably the first racing game which many people of a certain age ever played and it remains a complete and utter classic. Simple layout, easy to grasp controls and better than expected graphics make this a winner.
4 ) Galaxa Remix.
Another arcade classic which you can buy for a couple of quid, this involves all the alien craft shooting fun that any sane person could reasonably ask for.
5 ) The Secret of Monkey Island.
Retro pirate adventures abound in this classic game which is now available to iPhone users, a fantastic puzzle based game that was undoubtedly a catalyst for many modern role playing gaming, a barrel of fun for a little over a pound.
6 ) Pac Man.
The words classic and game were probably invented after this work of genius first appeared. Ask small children in remote villages in Mongolia or old men in Borneo how this game works and they will explain that the ghosts chase you but that if you eat one of the big pills in the corner you can turn the tables on them.
7 ) Frogger.
Helping the frog cross the street and the stream might seem easy but if you haven’t played it for over a decade it may be trickier than you think. Watch out for those fast moving trucks!
8 ) Dig Dug.
What would a trip down arcade memory lane be worth without this old stalwart? Is there dirt? Yes. Is there digging? Yes. What more could we possibly ask for?
9 ) Q’Bert.
We must confess that we missed this one first time around but if jumping around a pyramid is your bag of fun then this is quite possibly the way to get the most out of your iPhone.
10 ) Sonic the Hedgehog.
We couldn’t leave this little fellow out could we? The most famous hedgehog in the world keeps going strong and trying to outwit Dr Robotnik after all these years.
