Overview
After a strong week for debuts a week ago, the biggest opening so far this year for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, L.A. Noire, occurred this week. This resulted in huge increases of software, up an overall 38 percent, as three other games debuted in the top 40. Hardware is up for the home consoles, as the Wii received a price cut in America and EMEAA, and down for the handhelds week on week. There are no hardware milestones this week. Software milestone this week: both versions of L.A. Noire shot past the 500,000 mark. Two games sold over 500,000, four sold over 100,000 and the top 17 sold over 50,000.
Worldwide Hardware

Week on week sales are up for the home consoles and down for the handhelds. Despite the Wii price cut in two of the three regions the PlayStation 3 held onto first by a very tiny margin. The PlayStation 3 is up 6,000 (5%) to 131,000 sold. The Wii jumped up from last this week to being just 1,000 behind the PlayStation 3 with sales of 130,000. This is an increase of 51,000 (65%). The Xbox 360 is third this week though is just 8,000 behind the PlayStation 3 with sales of 123,000. This is an increase of 8,000 (7%). The DS sold 102,000, a drop of just 3,000 (-3%). The PSP drops just 4,000 (-4%) this week to 85,000 sold. The 3DS with the biggest drop sold 80,000 this week, a drop of 9,000 (-10%). Total sales increased 49,000 (8%) to 651,000.
Year on year sales are up for the Xbox 360, down for the PlayStation 3 and PSP, and down significantly for the DS and Wii. The Xbox 360 is up 17,000 (16%) units sold year on year. The PlayStation 3 sold 27,000 (-17%) less this week than the same week last year and the PSP is down 19,000 (-18%). The DS is down 149,000 (-59%) and the Wii despite a price cut is down 97,000 (-43%).

The PlayStation 3 has been in first for 16 straight weeks, the Wii in second for one week and the Xbox 360 in third for one week. Wii sales not surprising were dropping faster than the other two platforms, since most people were waiting for the price to drop, which occurred this week. The gap between the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 closed slightly for a fourth straight week.

3DS sales decrease for a seventh straight week and have been below the DS for five weeks and the PSP for four weeks. PSP sales dropped for a third straight week and DS sales dropped for a 10th straight week.
Worldwide Software
Four games debuted in the top 40, the same as last week. L.A. Noire (X360) debut’s at the top this week with sales of 868,000. The PlayStation 3 version debuted at number two with sales of 763,000. The game launched in America and EMEAA and will release in Japan on July 7.
The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings (PC) debuted at number three with sales of 212,000. These sales are retail only, as there is no data for digital sales. The game launched in America and EMEAA, with no plans to be released in Japan.
Akiba’s Trip (PSP) debuted at number 12 with sales of 57,000. The game launched in Japan, with no plans to be released elsewhere.
Dead or Alive: Dimensions (3DS) debuted at number 25 with sales of 32,000. The game launched in Japan and EMEAA and in America on May 24.
Other games in the top 10 that are not debuts include Brink (X360) at number four with sales of 106,000. Wii Sports Resort is at number five with sales of 93,000
Wii Sports is at number six with sales of 87,000. Pokémon Black / White Version (DS) is at number seven with sales of 78,000. LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game is at number eight with sales of 73,000. Zumba Fitness (Wii) is at number nine with sales of 72,000. Wii Fit Plus rounds out the top ten with sales of 59,000.

Week on week software are up across the board. The Xbox 360 sold the most software this week with 2.00 million games, an increase of 621,000 (45%). PlayStation 3 software sales picked up to 1.84 million games sold, an increase of 710,000 (63%). The Wii sold 1.32 million games sold, an increase of 213,000 (19%). The DS sold 830,000 games, an increase of 123,000 (17%). The PSP sold 359,000 games, an increase of 64,000 (22%). 3DS game sales increased 50,000 (41%), to 172,000 games sold. Total combined software is up week on week to 6.53 million games sold an increase of 1.78 million (38%).
Year on year software total are down for every platform. The PlayStation 3 is down 589,000 (-24%), the Wii is down 524,000(-28%) and the Xbox 360 is down 527,000 (-21%). The DS is down 399,000 (-32%) and the PSP is down 138,000 (-28%). Total combined software is down 2.01 million (-23%) games sold year on year.

Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 software sales have remained similar for the last ten or so weeks, as their biggest releases have been for both platforms. Both platforms for a second straight week see an increase in software sales. The Wii after four straight weeks of decreases, increase this week as the console received a price cut.

3DS software sales after six straight weeks of drops, with the release of Dead or Alive: Dimensions increase slightly. After two weeks of drops PSP software sales increase. After four weeks of drops the DS also increases in software sales. DS software outsells the PSP by margin of greater than 2:1.
