Microsoft has not been shy with their Kinect games, but they might be taking their biggest risk yet! They are teaming with Pixar for a game under the code name Rush. Pixar, who was created by the late Steve Jobs, has yet to create a collection of mini games based on their movies (Toy Story 3, Cars 2, etc). That is what their goal is with this new project, which is slated for a Spring 2012 release. They also are teaming up with Double Fine Productions for a new game called Double Fine Happy Action Theater for the upcoming holiday season. You can find the trailer for it down below. Sesame Street has teamed up with Microsoft for a second Kinect game as well. It will support more interactive learning and current season features. No word on when “Project Columbia” (that is what the game’s code name is) will come out. Meanwhile, National Geographic will be releasing an on console game called Kinect Nat Geo TV. No word on when that game will come out either.
I am pleased to see that they are working on new games. I think they see just how big the Kinect could be and they are making sure that they max it out. I do think that they should also focus on creating games that will attract everybody else as well. They do not need to copy Nintendo and make the Kinect attractive to only a certain a group.
Are you excited for these upcoming games? I am curious and really want to know more info on Pixar and National Geographic’s games. I am sure they will do well with them, but I do hope they have some regular games for older players in the works as well. That would help give them some breathing room in my opinion.
